Strong play comes from keeping several useful moves available instead of relying on one runner.
From home to the finish
Each color begins with its tokens at home. A qualifying roll brings a token onto the starting square, and later rolls move it around the track toward its colored home lane. Landing on an exposed opposing token sends that token home, while marked safe positions protect occupants. Reaching the final space requires the correct count, so a player with several advanced tokens is less likely to waste a roll.
Spread risk across the board
Moving one token far ahead feels fast, but it also gives opponents a single obvious target. Two or three active tokens create choices and make awkward rolls useful. Watch the distance between your token and every opponent behind it. When the gap matches a possible roll, a safe square or an alternate token may be the wiser move.
Use captures with a purpose
A capture is strongest when it also improves your own position. Sending a rival home can change the race, but chasing one token across the board may cost more turns than it saves. Near the end, compare how many exact rolls each player still needs. Sometimes the best defense is simply moving another token into the home lane.
Four habits worth practicing
- Open a second token early when the roll permits it.
- Count the threat range behind every exposed token.
- Prefer safe squares when two moves advance you equally.
- Keep more than one finisher available for exact endgame rolls.
Practice one idea at a time. A short session with a clear goal is more useful than repeating moves without reviewing the result.
